Facebook Dashes With The New ‘Tagging’ Feature

Published by pratyushkp on December 18th, 2010 - in Social, Technology

Facebook is getting more attention with the new “tag suggestion” feature which is designed to make “tagging” people in uploaded photos quicker. These tag Suggestions will use its facial recognition software to suggest the user’s friend(s) to be tagged or in other words, will match the user’s new photos to other photos they are tagged in with. All that users have to do is to simply approve “Who is this” box, which is filled by the Facebook itself, alongwith its suggestion. Facebook is also allowing users to opt out of the service by changing their privacy settings.

Though many are excited about this feature, few critics are of the opinion that, the feature gives lot of scope for misuse. If this contains an approval process wherein the tagged person reviews the photos and then approves to tag in or not then it would have been a safer private affair according to many fans.

The new feature will begin rolling out to American Facebook users sometime next week and it’s not say when or if it would roll out to international users, only times will tell us if this feature will get likes or dislikes.
