Internet Explorer Users Have Lower IQs Than Users Of Other Browsers, Survey Finds

Published by pratyushkp on August 2nd, 2011 - in Social, Technology

Are users of Internet Explorer the dumbest on the Internet?

Findings from a survey conducted by Vancouver consulting firm AptiQuant suggest just that. The company gave IQ tests to over 100,000 people, found randomly through user searches and targeted advertising; the test-takers did not know they were being judged based on what browser they were using.

Though no significant differences were found across the IQs of Chrome, Firefox, and Safari users, the study did find that “subjects using any version of Internet Explorer ranked significantly lower on average than others.” Ouch.

Here is the damning chart:

It sometimes feels like the number of scams spreading across Facebook is never ending. Here is the latest one that was brought to my attention by members of Sophos’s Facebook page:

lol What true pain both are having at this moment.

It’s another survey scam, of course, which earns commission for the folks who created the webpages and kicked off the campaign in the first place.

Chrome Successes over Firefox In The Top Browser Run

Published by pratyushkp on December 3rd, 2010 - in Social, Technology

Edging out Firefox 27.80 percent to 27.67 percent Chrome has now passed Firefox as the most preferred browser for the month of November.

It has been recently noticed that Google’s browser was only about 3 percent away from passing longtime leader- Firefox, making huge gains.

What leaves us wondering is- how long Chrome would survive the competition as Mozilla is slated to launch Firefox 4 early next year. So far, the update looks to be a big improvement both in terms of speed and functionality. Features like F1 (Mozilla’s experimental social browser add-on) and Panorama, are surely impressive.

The November month stats reveal the breakdown:

  • Chrome: 27.80%
  • Firefox: 27.67%
  • Safari: 20.42%
  • Internet Explorer: 15.74%

Thus we conclude its the Chrome era finally post Firefox’s decent four-year run :)

Google To Make Signatures More Stylish

Published by pratyushkp on July 31st, 2010 - in Social, Technology

Google has now given users a set of new options that allows one to set their personal custom signatures that may include images as well.

Previously Greasemonkey scripts for Firefox and browser plugins have tried a lot to enable the colour change of the signature but failed to do so. Now Google’s software has finally made it possible and the users can see a custom rich text editor just like in Gmail’s compose mode. With the help of this new feature, people can change the color, alter the font and even insert images and links in their signature.

To change your signature in Gmail, click on “Settings,” and scroll down to the “Signature” section. You’ll see a new signature editor which contains the same functions that are at your disposal when you compose an e-mail.

In addition to that users can now use varied signatures for different email addresses. The new feature will allow users to send mails to every email address in their account with a distinct signature.

To customize signatures for particular addresses, users can edit the signature for each account from the Settings page by changing them.
