Facebook has added a new feature allowing users to embed photos, videos and website previews into comments. Now, if you include a URL in a Facebook comment, you’ll be able to preview content from the web page that URL links to.

For example, if your friend posts about the new Harry Potter movie and asks if it’s any good, you might paste a link to the film’s Rotten Tomatoes review page. The new comment will let your friend–and anyone else who can view that post–see a sample of the content on the Rotten Tomatoes, such as the movie’s rating and a promo graphic.

Amidst the increasingly prevalent hacking attacks that are occurring around the globe, will we ever be able to enjoy a “safe” Internet?

Mikko Hypponen, a computer security expert, argues that new security measures that improve coordination between international law enforcement groups are needed to limit the spread of online criminal activity–or else.

“I’ve spent my life defending the net, and I do feel that if we don’t fight online crime, then we are running the risk of losing it all,” said Hypponen during his presentation at TEDGlobal, while displaying logos Facebook, Twitter, Google and other online services.

Google has launched a teaser site and invitation request form for Photovine, its newest entry into the social media game (you may have heard it launched a Facebook competitor that is in high demand so far).

Details on the Photovine landing page are scant, but it appears that it will work something like this:
1. You take a photo on your smartphone and upload it onto Photovine.
2. You give the photo a caption. Anyone can see the photo and the caption.
3. Other Photovine users respond to your photo with their own photo with the same caption.
4. Friends are made and a good time is had by all.
