New findings released by Jumptap, a mobile advertising network, reveal that residents of the Southern and Southwestern United States tend to prefer devices running Google’s Android operating system, whereas Apple’s iOS devices are more popular in the Midwest and Northeast.

According to data (PDF) pulled from over 11 billion requests via 83 million unique users on the Jumptap network, Android has held on to its lead over other smartphone makers for another month by sustaining 38% of the overall mobile operating system market in June 2011; a four-point decrease from the previous month. On the other hand, iOS continues to gain ground by increasing its market share from 30.3% in May to 33% in June of 2011. Blackberry remains in third with a reported 22% market share in June 2011.

Cash-rich Apple can offer many tips to the debt-ridden US government in financial management, says the Wall Street Journal, not the least being overcoming the ‘psychology of defeat’.

What would happen if Apple had to tackle the US debt crisis, asks David Weidner who has covered Wall Street for over two decades. ‘First, it would eliminate spending that’s not working. Then it would make a commitment to spend if necessary. Third, it would look for ideas to spend on. Finally, it would call customers’ bluff. How much are you willing to pay for what the government gives you?” he writes.

According to the report, the current US crisis has less to do with spending and revenue and more to do with psychology. The entire US system has ‘taken on a mind-set of defeat. It doesn’t seem to matter that the business model – taxing for revenue, spending for growth – isn’t broken. After all, it’s working in Germany, Canada, India and China.

Google+ has, so far, out-paced the meteoric rise of sites like Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, comScore vice president for industry analysis Andrew Lipsman told the AFP.

The site is also catching on globally with significant membership in India, Britain, Canada, and Germany, according to the study. A July 2011 comScore study found that Google+ had attracted “20 million visitors in 21 days” and that the United States was home to approximately 5.3 million Google+ users. India was the country with the second-highest number of users on Google+, with 2.8 million members from India.

In her resignation letter, which is below in its entirety, Zuckerberg said:

“I have spent my years at Facebook pouring my heart and soul into innovating and pushing the media industry forward by introducing new concepts around live, social, participatory viewing that the media industry has since adopted. We have made incredible progress, but there is still much to be done and other ways I can affect change. Now is the perfect time for me to move outside of Facebook to build a company focused on the exciting trends underway in the media industry.”
