Indian Village Changes Its Name to SnapDeal.com Nagar

A village in northern India has changed its name from that of a god to SnapDeal.com Nagar. The tiny town had good reason to, because SnapDeal, India’s version of Groupon, provided it with fresh water.

SnapDeal’s founder Kunal Bahl wanted to do something good with his company’s burgeoning profits, so like Bill Gates and his philanthropic efforts, the 28-year-old CEO looked for an opportunity where he could have the most bang for the buck.

His answer? Water. He found out that a mere $5,000 would install 15 hand pumps that would make it so the villagers wouldn’t have to walk nearly two miles just to get clean water. The result was life-changing, Bahl told CNN.

Nano To Be Available In Four States

Now customers won’t have to pre-book their Nano cars with Nano available on spot booking.

Now getting a nano car just got easier, with Tata accepting spot bookings in places like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka. Previously the car was available to those customers who had placed their orders during the pre-launch booking last year, who were then selected through a draw at the launch. But now the World cheapest car will be available for a test drive and immediate bookings in places like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka.

In addition to this Tata Motors has also tied up with 25 banks to offer loans for purchasing the Tata Nano at attractive rates of interest.

Nokia To Provide Free Handsets To Villagers

Nokia is all set to provide free phones to over 500 households in five villages of Uttar Pradesh as part of its 15 years celebration.

Celebrating its 15 years in India, popular handset producer Nokia is all set to launch Ujjwal, a project aimed to provide 100 per cent household mobility in 5 villages in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. As part of the project Nokia today said it would provide free phones, preloaded with Nokia Ovi Life Tools which contain information on agriculture, education and entertainment, to over 500 households in five villages of Uttar Pradesh.

Nokia said the initiative aims at driving inclusive growth and pushing socio-economic development in the region through mobile connectivity.

According to Nokia India Managing Director D Shivakumar, rural consumers through Ovi services will be able to access information related to weather forecasts, crop advisory services like information on probable diseases, weather-based disruptions and tips for successful harvests.

In order to have a far reaching impact and to ensure the implementation of the project in the five villages, the company has tied up with Datamation Foundation, a dedicated NGO working in the area.
