Nokia To Join Hands with IGNOU To Offer English Course

IGNOU is all set to provide a certificate programme in English through Nokia phone’s Ovi Life Tools.

India’s Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has partnered with Nokia Ovi life tools to provide course material for its students in English language.

Nokia and IGNOU will work together to put a Certificate Programme in Functional English (CFE) on Nokia devices supporting the Ovi Life Tools. To be started in six districts of Maharashtra and after six months, depending on the response will launch it on a national level, the six-month certificate programme will begin from January 2011 and is divided in three levels, English in daily life, English in education and joining the workforce.

Ovi life tools will help students by guiding them and giving them information on various fields like education, maps, health, crop prices. Music and many more. It also help them in filling the admission forms, besides providing students with study material and daily learning content from IGNOU.

The Certificate Programme in Functional English will cost Rs 1,900 per student and on completion of the programme students will get certificates from IGNOU.

Nokia All Set To Launch Dual SIM Phones

Nokia all set to unveil C1 and C2 dual SIM phones in the Indian Market

Finnish Handset makers Nokia is all set to debut in the Dual SIM market with the launch of its two new mobile phones C1 and C2.

Expected to launch by this year, C1 will allow the user to carry twoSIM cards, while only one can be activated at a time. On the other hand, C2 will support both SIMs working simultaneously. The phones would sport features like FM radio, a 1,000 entries-address books, LED torch, VGA camera. In addition to that the phone will be integrated with Nokia Life Tools service (for information on healthcare, education and entertainment) as well as Ovi Mail.

The mobiles will be priced between 1,500 and 2,500.

Nokia To Provide Free Handsets To Villagers

Nokia is all set to provide free phones to over 500 households in five villages of Uttar Pradesh as part of its 15 years celebration.

Celebrating its 15 years in India, popular handset producer Nokia is all set to launch Ujjwal, a project aimed to provide 100 per cent household mobility in 5 villages in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. As part of the project Nokia today said it would provide free phones, preloaded with Nokia Ovi Life Tools which contain information on agriculture, education and entertainment, to over 500 households in five villages of Uttar Pradesh.

Nokia said the initiative aims at driving inclusive growth and pushing socio-economic development in the region through mobile connectivity.

According to Nokia India Managing Director D Shivakumar, rural consumers through Ovi services will be able to access information related to weather forecasts, crop advisory services like information on probable diseases, weather-based disruptions and tips for successful harvests.

In order to have a far reaching impact and to ensure the implementation of the project in the five villages, the company has tied up with Datamation Foundation, a dedicated NGO working in the area.
