Opera Founder Jon S. von Tetzchner Resigns

Opera founder Jon S. von Tetzchner has resigned from the company.

In an email to Opera employees, von Tetzchner said that “It has become clear that The Board, Management and I do not share the same values and we do not have the same opinions on how to keep evolving Opera. As a result I have come to an agreement with the Board to end my time at Opera. I feel the Board and Management is more quarterly focused than me.” You can read the full email below.

Von Tetzchner co-founded Opera Software in 1995, and led the company up to 2010, when he resigned as CEO. He then became a full-time strategic advisor to the company.

Firefox 5 Beta Released For Desktop And Android

Though Mozilla‘s increasingly popular web browser just got a refresh in March with the release of Firefox 4, Mozilla developers have been hard at work and have already cranked out another beta release.

Firefox 5, announced on Tuesday, is now available for desktop devices running Windows, Mac, Linux, as well as for Android handsets.

A post on the Mozilla Blog claims that the new version introduces over “1,000 improvements and performance enhancements,” including new add-ons for users and developer resources such as CSS animation support.

Internet Explorer 9 Final May Release on March 16

Beauty of the Web event hinting at something major related to IE9

Last week, Microsoft rolled out the first Release Candidate of Internet Explorer 9 web browser. Apparently, the software giant is gearing up for the web browser war that seems to be heating up slowly. Neowin reported about a media invite being sent out about Microsoft holding Beauty of the Web event, again. Microsoft’s IE9 team would be hosting the event so we certainly anticipate IE9 final announcement. Microsoft held IE9 Beta announcement event with the same name – Beauty of the Web in September 2010.

Co-incidentally, Mozilla is also expected to release the Firefox 4.0 final version in March. Today, Google Chrome 10 matured to Beta stage and version 11.10 developer build was released. Yes, there’s no end to new versions of desktop web browsers.

We shall wait till March 14 to see if Microsoft will announce IE9 final or some eye-candy feature related to the same.

Yahoo Mail To Be Refreshed

Yahoo mail unveils Beta version which claims to be two-three times faster than the previous version of Yahoo Mail.

Yahoo Mail takes a whole new avatar with the launch of its beta version that claims to be feature rich and faster than before.

In a bid to catch up with its competitors, Yahoo mail has rolled out a Yahoo Mail beta interface that promises users a whole new experience. The new Yahoo mail beta offers a new interface with social networking sites Facebook, Twitter which will let users to post updates on their social networking sites as well as view photos and videos from Flickr, Picasa and YouTube without ever leaving Yahoo Mail.

The New Yahoo mail beta promises to be two-three times faster than the previous version of Yahoo Mail and has redesigned its instant messaging which will look more like a standard, smaller-windowed IM client, which will let users to use tabs for multiple IM conversations and SMS dialogs. In addition to all this yahoo mail has improved its spam filtering and has introduced tools to search through mail that will help better sort and prioritize messages.

Now Make Calls Through Facebook

Facebook and Skype will soon announce a partnership that will allow users to make calls to their friends via Facebook.

In what looks like a challenge to Google phone-in service, Facebook is all set to partner with Skype, leading Internet telephone service provider, to allow Facebook users to make calls to their friend via their Facebook profile.

The report which is yet to be confirmed by both the parties will bring in cheers to users of Facebook around the world. If the deal does comes through Facebook users will have the facility of texting, having video chat and voice chat with other individuals on their Facebook network. This deal will help Skype’s 560 million users to link with 500 million members Facebook.

This feature though will be available only through the new Skype 5.0 which is in the beta stage and will be in market within the next two to three weeks.
