Wikipedia All Set To Win Over Indian Users

Wikipedia plans to open an office in India.

Online Encyclopedia, wikepedia is all set opens its branch in India. In a bid to popularize the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, its founder Jimmy Wales has announced plans to open a branch in India.

Jimmy Wales, who is in India, in a bid to popularize wikepedia, has already announced its plans to set up an office in India, which would be its second office in the world after San Francisco. The Indian project is supposed to attract Indians and also to build a “strong and healthy India based projects.

According to Wales “As a media project, for me India was the perfect place because we wish to work with a variety of people and India has a lot of communities. The community in India should lead and Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) will follow them.”

He also encouraged Indians to contribute more and edit more on wikepedia.

Nano To Be Available In Four States

Now customers won’t have to pre-book their Nano cars with Nano available on spot booking.

Now getting a nano car just got easier, with Tata accepting spot bookings in places like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka. Previously the car was available to those customers who had placed their orders during the pre-launch booking last year, who were then selected through a draw at the launch. But now the World cheapest car will be available for a test drive and immediate bookings in places like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka.

In addition to this Tata Motors has also tied up with 25 banks to offer loans for purchasing the Tata Nano at attractive rates of interest.

Nine scientists To Be Awarded The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar For The Year 2010

Nine scientists including 3 women have laid claim to the Swarup Bhatnagar award for the year 2010.

The annual Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, instituted in 1957 for outstanding contributions in seven disciplines has been announced. The awards which were announced at a function to mark the foundation day of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research will include three female recipients. The award will carry a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a plaque which will be given by the Prime Minister later this year.

For Biological Sciences, Dr Sanjeev Galande from National Centre for Cell Science, Pune and Dr Shubha Tole from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai were chosen. In the field of Chemical Sciences, Dr Swapan K Pati from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore and Dr Sandeep Verma, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur was selected. Dr G K Ananthasuresh, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Dr Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata has been selected in Engineering Sciences category. Dr Mitali Mukerji, Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology (CSIR), Delhi won the award for Medical Sciences. For Physical Sciences, Dr Umesh Vasudeo Waghmare, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore and Dr Kalobaran Maiti, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai will receive the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar 2010 Award.

This year no Award is being given in the area of Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean & Planetary Sciences and Mathematical Sciences.

Cisco Launches A New Social Networking Site

Cisco India today announced the launch of its web 2.0 technology platform – www.myhumannetwork.com.

This new technology platform is built on Google Earth application, which allows people and organizations across geographic locations to connect, collaborate and share experiences and ideas for various causes and initiatives.
The website allows individuals and organizations to get registered and provide feeds of their initiatives, share content such as pictures and videos and build a network of like-minded people to support various causes and initiatives.

My www.myhumannetwork.com aims to connect charitable organizations and individuals who want to make a change or difference and allow’s them to collaborate and share ideas, experiences and issues and help them find solutions online. Individuals can identify causes from various categories such as education, healthcare, education, environment, animal welfare, economic development and infrastructure and social welfare and choose initiatives under each cause. About, 40 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and individuals across India have registered on the website and the company expects over 250 NGOs and people in next 6 to 9 months.

Noble Laureates To Visit India For 2010 Asian Science Camp

India will host the three-day Asian Science Camp (ASC) from August 10 in Mumbai which will be attended by Nobel Laureates and international students.

India is all set to host the 2010 Asian Science Camp for the first time in. The science to be held from August 17 to 21 is financially supported by the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Atomic Energy and will be hosted in Navy Mumbai.

The camp will be attended by around 185 students and 30 teachers from 20 countries and aims to enlighten talented science students through discussions and dialogue with top scholars of the world. Eleven world renowned scientists from India and abroad, including Nobel Laureates Prof. Richard R Ernst (Switzerland) and Prof. Makoto Kobayashi (Japan) will be the speakers at the camp.

H.C. Pradhan, director, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education that is hosting the camp said “In the coming decades, science will assume great importance especially in Asia. The camp is therefore a means to motivate younger generations to pursue research and not just science,”
