Bangalore University Students To Get E-Degree Certificate’s

Bangalore University students now get speedier access to their degree certificates before their convocation thanks to the new online portal opened by university officials.

The initiative launched in partnership with MeritTrac Services, atesting and examination Services Company, allows Bangalore University students, who have completed their degree in 2010, to download their certificates online.

Bangalore University vice chancellor N Prabhu Dev said “During the first phase, only students who have completed their degree in 2010 will be eligible to apply for the convocation certificate. In the second phase, all students, including previous and forthcoming years, will be able to access this service,”

Students can go to www.bub.ernet.in and feed their BU registration number, and provide personal details (address, contact information, etc). Students can download the certificate- by paying a small fee of Rs 317-within two hours if they provide the required documents. The original certificate will be sent through post to their address within a month. The e-convocation certificates will be valid only until the main annual convocation after which students will have to get the original certificates.

Facebook Partners With Bing For Search Engine

Facebook joins hands with Bing to make search results sound more personal.

Microsoft has joined hands with Facebook to provide users a personal touch while they access their search results on Microsoft’s search engine Bing. As part of the four-year alliance between the two companies, Bing search engine will show users which sites and products their Facebook friends like.

To be optional, the new feature dubbed “Liked Results” will allow users to go through information that has already been liked by their friends who have previously gone through the information. Thus now the things you search will come with a personal recommendation form your Facebook friends. In addition to this, the new feature will also help users search for friends on Facebook.

The new feature though is only rolled out to users in the United States.

Facebook Test’s New Feature

Facebook has unveiled a new ’subscribe’ feature for select users for testing purpose that will allow users to get notifications and alerts whenever a friend updates their profile.

Facebook is testing a new feature known as “subscribe feature” that will allow users to get notifications whenever another Facebook user uses the social-networking site to update their status or share photos with friends. The new feature will Facebook users to select which friends or family members they want to receive “alerts” from whenever there is any activity on their Facebook profile.

This new feature which is rolled out to select user to test their responses has led to widespread criticism from critics who call it a stalking tool. They fear that it night be mi-used by people and are hoping that the feature comes with an option to accept or not.

Google Revamps Its Social Networking Site

Orkut a social networking site has revamped its site in a bid to attract new users.

Facebook is on a all time high with a 500 million strong user base which includes celebrity users, the site seems to be improving day-by-day bringing in a host of new applications and software’s. Orkut on the other hand is losing its users but refuses to go down without a good fight.

Orkut has brought in brand new settings to attract its losing fan base and to cater to a new set of users. The new settings introduced are -

  • Now Orkut users can send multiple similar scraps to people from their account
  • Users can select a set of friends and form a private group, where scraps sent to these members can be viewed only by them.
  • Orkut will now suggest friend groups based on past interactions by the user so that the entire process of making individual groups is made easier

Orkut is also planning to revamp its existing services like updates, improved birthday display, more games and applications from the homepage?

India Develops A Navigation System Of Its Own

ISRO has developed a satellite-based navigation system to help aid air traffic from Southeast Asia to Africa.


Indian Space Research Organization has launched GAGAN or the GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation which will help the civil aviation sector as well as help in marine navigation, search and rescue operations, rail and road transport, survey and mapping as well as precision farming.

GAGAN is based on a constellation of 24 satellites positioned in six earth-centered orbital planes and will provide seamless coverage of air traffic from south Asia to Africa and connect to the systems of Europe and Japan. GAGAN is a joint initiative of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and was launched by Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. According to officials this system will help in providing enhanced safety features for the airlines as they would be able to have precision approach guidance towards runways in any weather conditions.

At present only countries like the United States, European Union and Japan have such a system.
