Google Revamps Its Social Networking Site

Orkut a social networking site has revamped its site in a bid to attract new users.

Facebook is on a all time high with a 500 million strong user base which includes celebrity users, the site seems to be improving day-by-day bringing in a host of new applications and software’s. Orkut on the other hand is losing its users but refuses to go down without a good fight.

Orkut has brought in brand new settings to attract its losing fan base and to cater to a new set of users. The new settings introduced are -

  • Now Orkut users can send multiple similar scraps to people from their account
  • Users can select a set of friends and form a private group, where scraps sent to these members can be viewed only by them.
  • Orkut will now suggest friend groups based on past interactions by the user so that the entire process of making individual groups is made easier

Orkut is also planning to revamp its existing services like updates, improved birthday display, more games and applications from the homepage?

Google Launches Google stories

Google Stories is a new platform for people to share their stories on how the search engine has impacted their lives.


A marketing strategy or blowing one own trumpet is the question on is prompted to ask after Google launches its new feature Google stories. The concept “Your Google stories: the right answer in the nick of time.” seems to be the site was inspired by the social networking site Facebook which launched “Facebook stories’ last month as part of its marketing campaign to allow people to tell their stories on the impact of Facebook on their lives.

According to official sources, the Google stories will feature stories from people who have used the search engine and how the site has influenced their actions and thoughts. The stories include experiences on how people found right information to escape fire accidents, Heart attacks and even give birth to a child.

Facebook Roll’s Out Security Features For Mobile Phones

Facebook has introduced its privacy controls to mobile devices, thus users can now control their personal information from being viewed by others while on the move.

Facebook has now made the entire suite of its privacy controls available from any mobile device. The social networking site which launched a mobile based Facebook application for users to update their status and check and post messages online has now launched privacy options that can be accessed through mobiles on m.facebook.com/privacy which will let users to select whether their friends, or friends of friends, or everyone can see any new information that they post about themselves. In addition to that users can customize certain settings, and access the site’s privacy guide, which Facebook has formatted for mobile devices.

Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes said” We are committed to delivering the best privacy experience possible and this commitment extends to people who want the flexibility to access Facebook from mobile devices,”.

Twitter To “Suggest” Friends for You

Twitter has launched a new feature Friday called “Suggestions for You” which directs users to other Twitter accounts they may find interesting.

Twitter will now help you find friends with similar interests, thanks to its new search engine called “Suggestions for You” which looks at several factors and then determines who on Twitter may share your interests.

The accounts recommended to users will be chosen depending on a number of factors including who the user is, and who the user already following, and who they follow, so it should provide some interesting new people to converse with you may of otherwise never known about.

If users like a suggestion they can click “follow” and visit their profile page, otherwise if you don’t want that recommendation, click “hide” and Twitter will not show that option again.

Facebook and Twitter better be geared up for competition on the social networking line with the release of a desi social networking site.

In a first ever attempt to revolutionize social networking through mobiles; Indiatimes today has announced the launch of Hibuddy, the first ever voice social networking and blogging service for mobile users. Users just have to call 58888199 and create their voice channel, through which they can connect to millions of other users, with similar interests. Therefore, users looking for social networking, no longer need to be connected to the internet, and can easily find friends right from their mobile phones

In addition to that users have the option to voice blog, where users can showcase their talent on voice, in terms of sharing jokes, shayari, astrology, stock tips or anything they feel they are good at. Now the others users, who are looking for this content, will be following these channels, to enjoy the content, making it a complete C2C continuum. All in all, users can do a host of activities like singing songs, listening to shayari, giving opinions on latest movies and join groups/forums of similar interests with friends and potential friends.

Hibuddy also offers a variety of channels that will entertain and appeal to the youth. The service that is currently available in reliance network will soon be extended to all other networks.
