Google bug disables 150000 Gmail accounts

Yesterday around 150000 Gmail users account were disabled by the Google system. They lost all their emails, attachments and chat logs. Google explained that approximately 0.08% of its users were affected by this bug. This bug reset all these accounts and even sent them the Google start up mail that any new user of Gmail receives.

Google reported on its dashboard that the engineers are working to get the problem fixed and restore full access. When the Google spokesman was contacted, a clear message was sent across stating that all the mails and accounts would be restored. Though many users are still apprehensive about the fact that all their messages would be restored.

Meanwhile others are advised to take precautions and store a backup of all their emails. There is a free application for Mac, PC and Linux called Gmail Backup. This is quick and easy to use. After downloading this software, Google asks for your account details and begins backing up your emails securely. Users have suggested various other sites for backing up their emails as many found that this software is not supported with Mac. Some of the popular ones are backupify.com and eternos.com.

Google Tests Driver-Less Car

Google is testing a car that drives itself automatically in traffic.

Search engine Google is all set to go places with a car that it has developed, which drives itself automatically in traffic.

Google has been testing a car, on the roads of California, which can steer, stop and start without a driver. The car comes attached with video cameras on the roof, along with radar sensors and a laser range finder to see other traffic.

The car has covered 140,000 miles and was accompanied by a engineer in the driver’s seat who was ready to take control of the vehicle instantly by grabbing the wheel or touch the brake should something go wrong with the system. The car so far has witnessed only one accident, when one of the cars was rear-ended by a driver at a stop light.

The car is aimed at preventing traffic accidents, free up people’s time and reduces carbon emissions

Bom Sabado Virus Attacks Google

Google is fighting a virus that has launched a attack on its social networking site Orkut.

Social networking site Orkut is currently hit by a virus problem.Dubbed ‘Bom Sabado, which means ‘Good Saturday’ in Portuguese, the worm has attacked the XSS (cross-site scripting) of the site and posted scraps to the Orkut users with the text Bom Sabado and sent to the users account by the name of the other friends account.

Google has asked Orkut users to not login for a while and have asked users to refresh their browser cookies & cache. Google has also advised users to change the password and the security question as well.

Now Graph Your Google Activities

Google has unveiled a new application “Graph Your Inbox” that presents a visual graph of your e-mail activities on Google.

Designed by Bill Zeller, a Ph.D at Princeton University, “Graph Your Inbox” a Google Chrome extension will allow users to graph Gmail activity over time. The application provides the same search functionality used by Gmail, but instead of a list of messages Google will show you a graph of your email trends over time.Users can use it to visualize one communication with friends, your Facebook activity, when you purchased items on Amazon or how often you use certain words or phrases in the form of a graph. In this way one can keep a account of their activities through this tool.

Users can download and install the “Graph Your Inbox” for free and it doesn’t access any of your private data nor does it store passwords. And if you get bored you also have an option to disable it afterwards.
