Foreign Ministry Discovers Social Networking Tools

Shahi tharoor might have left the foreign ministry, but the ministry seemd to have learnt a lesson or two from him. Taking a leaf from his book, the foreign ministry has made its debut on social networking sites.

The Public Diplomacy (PD) division of the MEA today made its debut on Twitter with the user ID “Indian diplomacy” — http://twitter.com/Indiandiplomacy.The first tweet posted read: “Official twitter account of Public Diplomacy Division of Ministry of External Affairs, India @Indiandiplomacy”.

The Id was confirmed by PD division chief Navdeep suri who was reluctant to revel details as the work was still in progress. But, official’s sources confirm that the account on tweet was just a beginning and other accounts on Facebook and other social networking sites will soon follow.

This(social networking) is part of our(Ministry of foreign affairs) effort to use social media tools to conduct public diplomacy. We are hoping to get things going in the next 3-4 weeks.” suri added.

This is the first initiative in India where a ministry is part of a social networking website.

Cisco Launches A New Social Networking Site

Cisco India today announced the launch of its web 2.0 technology platform – www.myhumannetwork.com.

This new technology platform is built on Google Earth application, which allows people and organizations across geographic locations to connect, collaborate and share experiences and ideas for various causes and initiatives.
The website allows individuals and organizations to get registered and provide feeds of their initiatives, share content such as pictures and videos and build a network of like-minded people to support various causes and initiatives.

My www.myhumannetwork.com aims to connect charitable organizations and individuals who want to make a change or difference and allow’s them to collaborate and share ideas, experiences and issues and help them find solutions online. Individuals can identify causes from various categories such as education, healthcare, education, environment, animal welfare, economic development and infrastructure and social welfare and choose initiatives under each cause. About, 40 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and individuals across India have registered on the website and the company expects over 250 NGOs and people in next 6 to 9 months.

Now A Site To Cater To Your Textbook Needs

Notemonk displays notes and syllabus from textbooks subscribed by the NCERT.

Prashanth Ellina, a software professional based in Bangalore, has unveiled a new site “Notemonk.com” that offers free downloads of all the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks (Class I to Class XII)

Notemonk not only offers notes and syllabus for school students, but also enables registered members to ask questions and interact on specific topics. Since each chapter is organized hierarchically, the discussion forums are topic-specific.

According to Prashanth the idea is to enable a Class 12 student in West Bengal to answers queries in Physics from a Class 10 student in Orissa. Some students have also uploaded notes that they have taken down from their classes.

India Requests Google And Skype to Co-operate With Security Agencies

Indian government has asked Google, Skype and other communications providers to set up servers in India to allow security forces to intercept Internet data.

With BlackBerry agreeing to set up a server by November and Nokia all set to build a server, the Indian government has asked Google, Skype and other communications providers to set up servers, within two months in India to allow security forces to intercept Internet data.

According to Home Secretary G K Pillai, “all people who operate communication services in India should have a server in India”

The Indian government which faces threat from terrorists as well as naxals fears that the high level of encryption may be mis-used. Notices will be sent to all communication-services providers in India to allow “lawful access” to security agencies when required.

Google and Skype have confirmed that they are yet to get notices from the Indian Government.

Bengaluru Hosts Space Exhibition

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have put together a four day space exhibit Bengaluru Space Expo 2010 which starts from today.

The second edition of the international space exhibition andconference began in India’s Tech hub Bangalore today. Jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Indian Space Research Organization Bengaluru Space Expo 2010 will be held for four days starting today.

To be held at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre. The expo will showcase the latest technological advances, equipments, software solutions, related products and technical services in the space and related sectors. In addition to that a concurrent three-day international conference on “World Space-Biz” will also be held to deliberate on topics such as commercialization of space, remote sensing and navigation, where speakers from global space agencies and industry would put forth their views and discuss solutions and agendas for future.

The expo will attract delegations from dozen countries, including Britain, Denmark, France, Indonesia Israel, Japan, Korea, Thailand and the US. Space Companies like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Larsen & Toubro, EADS Astrium, Glonass-Russia,Dish TV, Godrej & Boyce, BrahMos, MEASAT, SES World Skies, Asia Broadcast Satellite and Devas Media will also feature during the four day space Expo.
