Top Internet Providers To Step In To Stop Piracy Online

Recording Industry Association of America

Pirating music and movies? Your Internet provider might tell you to stop.

Wireless carriers including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cablevision have joined with entertainment leaders like the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America to help curb pirating through a warning system that will give a customer six strikes before implementing measures like slowing Internet speeds.

Called “Copyright Alerts,” users suspected of uploading or downloading pirated content will get up to six alerts in the form of emails or pop-up messages. Telecom companies won’t shut down the Internet or turn over names to the entertainment companies, but could take “mitigation measures” that might include slowing web speeds, redirecting the users to a landing page until they contact the ISP to talk it over, and more.

MySpace Released Skype-Powered Calls … In 2007

How soon we forget. MySpace, the mostly-abandoned, Justin Timberlake-owned social network of yore, was the first to ink a VoIP deal for member-to-member calling — more than three-and-a-half years before Facebook.

This little tidbit of truth was dug up by none other than MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson, who was also quick to point out that the “place for friends” also had one-on-one video chat in 2004.

In the Mashable archives we find that on December 11, 2007, MySpace released a feature that would allow its members to Skype via MySpace IM with a single click (sound familiar?), albeit without the video functionality of today’s Facebook release.

Facebook‘s latest competitor is alive, and it’s called Google+. (You say that name like you might read out a broken line of C code – Google plus.)

A quick check on Wikipedia revealed that she is a model and Italian TV hostess, whose biggest contribution to popular culture is that she had something of a wardrobe malfunction on live TV during a soccer show called “Diretta Stadio”.

Clearly, the spammers behind the latest scam spreading quickly across Facebook were better acquainted with Miss Fruscio than me. I think perhaps I would like to keep it that way.

Here’s the message that is appearing on many people’s Facebook newsfeeds:

Yeahh!! It happens on Live Television!
